Buying clothes without spending money

They are many walking salespeople in Addis. They go around the various neighborhoods knocking at doors to sell work tools, hammers and nails, sweeping brushes, cleaning cloths and even shoes, indicating their presence by way of chanting. One of these people has an unusual business: he swaps second-hand clothes items, which means that customers can swap some of their own clothes for newer or different ones, instead of paying money for them.

I was told that when such a salesman comes around, women are very happy because they’ll be able to have new clothes without spending the limited cash they have. Men on the other hand, are not happy at all. They know that their respective wife or partner will swap some of their own shirts or trousers to get new clothes for themselves. This way women can get additional clothes without giving away their older wardrobe!  Women around the world have many things in common: one of them is to love clothes!
