As I got a few queries on this blog about the new Dashen, I can confirm that it has re-opened a few months ago in a new location in Kasanchis very close to the Swedish school. The menu is the same with high quality traditional Ethiopian food, however the venue has been updated with a mix of modern facilities and antique Ethiopian furniture. The staff has also followed the owner Tsege in the new venture, and has remained as welcoming. The grilled fish (my favourite) as well as the fasting platter of vegetables and pulses in spicy sauce are as delicious as ever!
In addition to the main dining room where every Friday and Saturday, traditional dancers and singers entertain guests in a very Ethiopian fashion, there are also smaller rooms for private parties. It is a newer and better Dashen. With such an offer, Dashen is now a more genuine alternative to take visitors than the touristy Yod Abyssinia or Habesha 2000 restaurants. I recommend it!

Excellent food, great location and a good outdoor space for lunch or private rooms for dinner. For a different experience, try the newly open Kaba Gourmet restaurant (at the back of the national museum), for modern Ethiopian food.
